We are expecting to move our office during the break and will inform everybody of our new contact details when they are confirmed. We are already at the early planning stages for our 2008 programme and we expect to mail the spring and early summer details out to everybody in late January. We have also been working on a new look website and expect online booking to also become available in the new year.

      Notes from earlier this year:

Compass Tours will be using a NEW telephone number from Tuesday 21st February 2006 for all your general enquiries and Railtour reservations.

The NEW NUMBER will be 0151 722 1147 and our new 'office hours' will be from 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday. If you need to contact us outside these hours then please email or write or indeed if you wish to contact us before the 21st February.

Indeed, you are always more than welcome to email to reserve seats or ask us anything during or outside the normal office hours. Emailing keeps costs down for everyone and we do try to respond as soon as possible (especially during any period where there are trips advertised).

The changes are also to enable an improvement in co-ordination between the regular small team involved in planning, organising and marketing each tour. We are taking on our first full time employee shortly owing to the increasing complexities and level of paperwork connected to promoting and running these trains. Due to costs and hours of availability we are no longer able to offer a daily enquiry facility after 6pm on weekdays. The many volunteers who help to varying degrees in advance and on the day of each trip will still fulfil a vital and invaluable role though (without which your day out would be unachievable)!

We are hoping to organise another dozen or so charter trains in 2006 and those of you on the mailing list (which is normally automatic for those who have travelled with us during the last three years), will be sent details of tours from your area or ones that we think may be of interest to you as soon as they are confirmed and available so you would not normally need to request a leaflet to be sent out.

Trains will continue to be formed of spacious and reasonably comfortable traditional Intercity style carriages with locomotives usually being heritage class 47 diesels as previously used.

      21st December 2005

Our train from Saturday 17th December in the very early hours of the morning at Stafford. Photo sent by train passenger Jim Murphy.

      11th December 2005

Two images of our railtour from this weekend:

One of our locomotives was 47703, photographed at Croft near Darlington on the out-bound trip from Cleethorpes to Edinburgh.

The other loco was 47832, both of our engines along with the carriages were hired as usual from FM Rail of Derby, this photo was taken at Edinburgh before the return journey to Cleethorpes.
Photo's taken by Andy Galpin and tour passenger Dave Earwaker.
